DESCRIPTION: In 1860 Prosper Maufoux, a notary profession, left his studio to follow his passion for wine and founded his Maison in Santenay, in Burgundy, a village south of the Côte d'Or, in the heart of the vineyards. In 1970, his nephew Pierre brought Prosper Maufoux's activity to the main square of Santenay in a palace built in 1835 by Jacques-Marie Duvault Blochet, owner at the time of the prestigious Domaine de la Romanée Conti. This building has the distinction of hosting a superb vaulted cellar built on two levels, the oldest of which dates back to the fifteenth century. In 1994, Robert Fairchild, historical importer of Prosper Maufoux wines in the United States, took the reins of the house and led it until his death. The direction is then taken by Eric Piffaut, whose family tradition in the wine world of Burgundy dates back to 1898. New techniques are applied to perpetuate and accentuate the qualitative approach, develop international fame and make the maison a place of welcome and discovery for customers and visitors.
