DESCRIPTION: This wine is a joint venture between Robert Mondavi, one of the largest producers of Napa Valley, and Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, owner of Château Mouton-Rothschild. first wines were born in 1983, after a degree in enology and viticulture Doug Shafer earned at the University of California. A year later Elias Fernandez joined the winery as assistant winemaker. Together Doug and Elias worked hard to create the "style Shafer", synonymous with quality, consistency and elegance. Shafer Vineyards wine comes from grapes grown on the slopes of an amphitheater of volcanic rock, which receives every afternoon the cool breezes of the San Francisco Bay.
